Is Starkville Academy Accredited? 

Starkville Academy is accredited by the Mississippi Association of Independent Schools (MAIS), the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS), and the Southern Association of Independent Schools (SAIS). 

Are your teachers certified? 

Starkville Academy employs 53 full-time teachers and 7 part-time teachers and aides who provide daily instruction and academic guidance for the students. All administrators, teachers, and counselors are fully certified, and nearly 45% of our faculty and administrative staff hold advanced degrees. 

What is your average ACT score? 

Our students have consistently scored above the national and state averages on the ACT over the last ten years, with an average score of approximately 22. SA has implemented a program to achieve its stated goal of improving ACT scores by 15%. All students will be required to take the ACT Prep course by the end of their junior year to achieve our goal of raising our average ACT score to 25. 

Does SA have a gifted program? 

Starkville Academy offers a program (Discovery) for students in grades 3–6 who qualify through individual IQ testing to receive accelerated/enrichment instruction weekly in addition to regular classroom instruction. 

What sports activities are available? 

Starkville Academy has a wide array of sports that are available to our students. These include Archery, Baseball, Basketball, Cheerleading, Cross Country, Dance, Fast Pitch Softball, Football, Golf, Soccer, Swim, Tennis, and Track. Pee Wee Basketball, Cheerleading, and Football programs begin in the fifth grade. 

What clubs/associations are available for students to become involved in? 

Starkville Academy offers many clubs/associations for students to be involved with such as Anchor Club, Band, Color Guard, Choral Music, Drama, Foreign Language, Student Council, National Honor Society, Science National Honor Society, Quiz Bowl, 4-H Club, Extreme Engineering Club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, North Mississippi High School Drama Fest, MAIS Spelling Bee, MAIS Reading Fair, Visions (student publication for art and literature), and International Thespian Society, Winter Guard and other organizations.

Do most of your students attend college? 

Approximately 96% of Starkville Academy graduates attended post-secondary school. Professionally, Starkville Academy graduates have made positive contributions in the fields of medicine, law, business, engineering, agriculture, and education, to name a few. 

How many students do you have in a classroom? 

Starkville Academy offers a low student-to-teacher ratio averaging 11:1. The average class size in the elementary is 17.2, while the average class size for core curriculum classes in secondary grades stands at 14.4. 

Does SA offer honors classes for secondary students? 

Starkville Academy offers numerous courses to provide every student the opportunity to meet the requirements of admission to a major college or university. Included in our course offerings are five dual credit classes, seven AP classes, six honors classes and online course options.

Do you offer extra help to students who may need it academically? 

Students experiencing academic difficulty may be referred to resource for assistance. A certified teacher is on staff to assist students and parents as needed. Starkville Academy also offers a Dyslexia Therapy Program for lower grades, providing appropriate academic instruction for high-potential students with a diagnosis of dyslexia.

What are the requirements for acceptance into the Dyslexia Therapy Program?

Acceptance into the program is based on admission into Starkville Academy, a dyslexia evaluation and interview or contact from the director, and availability in the DTP.  At Starkville Academy we strive to ensure that each child is a good fit for the DTP and that the program can meet the student’s therapy needs. The dyslexia therapy class is designed for high potential students whose primary diagnosis is dyslexia.  Students who struggle because of behavioral difficulties, severe attention problems, severe receptive and expressive language disorder or below average intellectual abilities will not benefit from our program.
