Diversity Scholarship Program

Starkville Academy is an independent college preparatory school for grades PreK-12. The Board of Directors of Oktibbeha Educational Foundation, Inc., dba Starkville Academy finds that it is in the best interest of the school to maintain a diverse student body of all races in a manner consistent with the school’s nondiscriminatory policy. The Board has established a program for the purpose of awarding scholarships to qualified applicants on the basis of the criteria set forth below and, as a part thereof, attracting minority students, who show aptitude for a private school education.

AMOUNT AND ALLOCATION:

The Oktibbeha Educational Foundation, Inc. provides funding for the Starkville Academy Scholarship Program. Total funding for the scholarships is available to students in grades PreK – 12 for the upcoming academic year.

All applicants must meet the criteria listed below. Scholarships will be awarded on a yearly basis by the Selection Committee.

SELECTION COMMITTEE:

The Board of Directors will name a three-person selection committee to review and investigate the applicants and make recommendations to the Board.

DURATION:

All scholarships are awarded for one school year. Recipients may reapply for scholarship aid each year, and preference will be shown to former recipients who have maintained the academic and other standards set forth herein.

CRITERIA FOR AWARDING THE SCHOLARSHIPS:

1. New students must complete the Admissions Process (application, entrance testing, registration fee and testing fee) and be accepted as a student at Starkville Academy. The registration fee may be partially or fully refunded upon the award or denial of a scholarship.

2. The awarding of a scholarship may be based on 1.) Financial Need or 2.) Merit.

a. Financial Need: Information such as household income, dependent siblings, and unusual circumstances (all of which should be provided in the Scholarship Application), will be used in making the determination.

b. Merit: Students must have a “C” or better cumulative average in all academic courses for the year preceding the award.

3. Appropriate decorum for the year preceding the award.

4. Church involvement, civic involvement, and community service will be considerations.

5. Involvement in Starkville Academy (or school from which the applicant is transferring) activities will be a consideration.

SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION PROCEDURE:

The following information is required of all students wishing to be considered for a scholarship award:

1. A total of three letters of recommendation, one from each of the following:
a. A school administrator from the school the student presently attends
b. A recent teacher
c. A church, club, or community leader

2. A copy of the applicant’s transcript for all grades completed

3. The results from each nationally recognized achievement tests that the applicant has taken, if not on the transcript

4. A completed scholarship application

5. If Financial Need is to be considered, a copy of parents’ or guardians’ most recent Federal Income Tax Return plus any other relevant financial information for verification of financial status.

Interested students should submit an application and other required information by the Priority Date of April 1st. If submitted following the Priority Date, the application will be considered only if funds are available. Applications are available in the Elementary and Middle/High School offices of Starkville Academy.

ONCE YOU SUBMIT THE ONLINE PORTION OF THE APPLICATION, THE FOLLOWING ITEMS SHOULD BE SUBMITTED TO THE SCHOOL OFFICE.
